Oral fluid testing is in the news:

It’s important to keep the following things in mind as we learn more about this technology:
- Unlike blood testing, it is non-invasive, samples can be taken quickly, before drugs metabolize, and it provides results to police officers and drivers immediately.
- It is a new technology to the US, but not to elsewhere in the world where it has been thoroughly tested and used to improve highway safety. Leading manufacturers are European companies.
- Oral fluid testing is not designed to prove someone is impaired. Rather, it determines which drug is responsible for the impairment that was observed by police officers.
- It is not “taking a DNA swab”. It takes a sample of oral fluid for drug testing.
